Baby Loss Journey

Because every loss matters

And every new beginning deserves support

Compassionate, Trauma-Informed Care Alongside Physiotherapy

Experiencing pregnancy loss, stillbirth, neonatal loss or fertility challenges can affect every aspect of your well being.

Whilst the physical recovery is often recognised, the emotional impact can continue long after the body begins to heal.

At Core Physiotherapy, we believe that every person deserves to feel heard, respected and supported.

Alongside specialist physiotherapy, Debbie has completed additional training as an Infant Loss Practitioner through the Foundation for Infant Loss Training, allowing us to provide care that is informed by a deeper understanding of pregnancy and baby loss.

This training doesn't replace counseling, bereavement services or medical care. Instead, it enhances the way we deliver physiotherapy by ensuring every appointment is compassionate, trauma-informed and centred around you as a whole person.

Whether you're recovering physically following pregnancy, navigating life after loss or simply looking for healthcare from someone who understands the wider journey, we're here to support you.

What Is an Infant Loss Practitioner?

Understanding More Than Physical Recovery

The Foundation for Infant Loss Training equips healthcare professionals with specialist knowledge and skills to better support individuals and families affected by:

  • Miscarriage

  • Recurrent pregnancy loss

  • Ectopic pregnancy

  • Stillbirth

  • Neonatal / loss

  • Medical termination for compassionate reasons

  • Fertility challenges

  • Pregnancy after loss

  • Birth trauma

This additional training helps us understand not only the physical aspects of recovery, but also the emotional, psychological and practical impact these experiences can have.

How Can This Help?

Healthcare That Understands Your Journey

Many people tell us they simply want to feel understood.

Trauma, grief and previous experiences can influence how comfortable you feel accessing healthcare, discussing symptoms or receiving treatment.

By integrating Infant Loss Practitioner training into physiotherapy, we aim to create appointments that feel:

Safe

Compassionate

Respectful

Non-judgemental

Individual

Person centred

You never have to explain more than you're comfortable sharing, and we'll always work at a pace that feels right for you.

Our Holistic Approach
Treating the Whole Person

We recognise that physical symptoms don't exist in isolation.

Previous experiences, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, family life and personal goals all influence recovery.

Our approach considers:

Your physical symptoms

Your personal experiences

Previous pregnancies or pregnancy loss where relevant

Fertility treatment history where appropriate

Lifestyle and daily activities

Work and family responsibilities

Sleep and recovery

Exercise and movement goals

What matters most to you

This allows us to create treatment that supports your physical rehabilitation whilst respecting your individual journey.

How We Integrate This Into Physiotherapy

Compassion Is Part of Every Appointment

Infant Loss Practitioner training influences how we communicate, assess and treat not just what we treat.

You'll notice this through:

  • Taking Time to Listen

We recognise that every story is different.

You'll never be rushed, and we'll always take time to understand what's important to you.

  • Creating a Safe Environment

We aim to provide appointments where you feel comfortable asking questions, expressing concerns and taking treatment at your own pace.

  • Respecting Your Choices

Every assessment and treatment is fully explained beforehand.

You'll always have control over your care and can pause or decline any aspect of treatment at any time.

  • Trauma Informed Communication

We understand that certain language, situations or examinations may feel difficult.

We communicate openly, respectfully and with sensitivity throughout your care.

  • Supporting Physical Recovery

Many people seek physiotherapy following pregnancy, birth or surgery.

Depending on your individual needs, treatment may include:

  • Women's Health Physiotherapy

  • Pelvic floor rehabilitation

  • Core rehabilitation

  • Scar therapy

  • Hands-on physiotherapy

  • Exercise therapy

  • Postural advice

  • Return-to-exercise rehabilitation

Our clinical treatments remain evidence-informed and individually tailored, while being delivered with a greater awareness of the emotional impact that pregnancy and baby loss can have.

Hands On Treatment

Gentle, Respectful & Individualised

  • Soft tissue therapy

  • Joint mobilisation

  • Gentle movement techniques

  • Pregnancy and postnatal physiotherapy

Every hands on treatment is:

✔ Fully explained beforehand

✔ Performed only with your informed consent

✔ Adapted to your comfort

✔ Combined with active rehabilitation

You remain in control throughout your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does being an Infant Loss Practitioner mean you provide counselling?

No. This service does not replace counselling, bereavement therapy or psychological support.

The training helps ensure your physiotherapy is delivered with greater understanding, sensitivity and awareness of the impact pregnancy and baby loss can have.

Can physiotherapy help after pregnancy loss?

Many women experience physical symptoms following pregnancy, including pelvic pain, back pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, abdominal weakness or musculoskeletal discomfort.

Physiotherapy can support your physical recovery where appropriate, while our trauma-informed approach aims to make you feel safe and supported throughout your care.

Do I have to talk about my loss?

No.

You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

Your care will always respect your wishes.

Can I still exercise with ankle & foot pain?

Often, some form of activity can be continued or adapted. The appropriate level depends on your symptoms and the underlying problem. We'll help you find a suitable level of activity while you recover.

Can someone come with me?

Absolutely.

If having a partner, family member or friend present helps you feel more comfortable, they are very welcome to attend your appointment with you.

Is treatment always hands on?

No.

Treatment is tailored to your needs.

Hands on therapy is only used where appropriate, fully explained beforehand and carried out with your consent.

Exercise, education and rehabilitation remain important parts of treatment.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and allows the physiotherapist to assess the relevant area.

Our Promise to You

Compassion. Respect. Understanding.

We understand that everyone's story is different.

Whether your experience happened recently or many years ago, you deserve healthcare that acknowledges both your physical recovery and your individual journey.

Our goal is to create a calm, welcoming space where you feel listened to, supported and empowered throughout your rehabilitation.

By combining specialist physiotherapy, Physiotherapy expertise and Infant Loss Practitioner training, we aim to provide care that supports not only how you move, but how you experience your healthcare.

Infant Loss Practitioner training enhances the way care is delivered but is not a substitute for bereavement counselling, psychological therapy, fertility treatment or specialist medical care. If you require additional emotional or medical support, we can help signpost you to the appropriate services while continuing to support your physical rehabilitation.
