Clinical Pilates

Clinical Pilates is a personalised form of exercise that uses Pilates based principles alongside physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation.

Rather than following a standard class, your programme is designed around your body, your symptoms, your movement and your goals.

At Core Physiotherapy, we combine Clinical Pilates with physiotherapy expertise, exercise rehabilitation, education and hands-on treatment where appropriate.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing persistent pain, rebuilding strength after surgery or simply want to move with greater confidence, Clinical Pilates can be adapted to meet you where you are.

Personalised Pilates to Help You Move Better, Feel Stronger & Recover With Confidence

How Can Clinical Pilates Help?

Exercise Designed Around You

Clinical Pilates can be used as part of a rehabilitation programme to help improve strength, movement and physical confidence.

  • Depending on your individual needs, it may help you:

  • Improve core strength

  • Build muscle strength

  • Improve mobility

  • Develop balance and stability

  • Improve movement control

  • Increase body awareness

  • Support recovery following injury

  • Build confidence with movement

  • Improve functional strength

  • Return to exercise and activity

Your programme is progressed as you become stronger and more confident.

Our Holistic Approach

Looking Beyond the Painful Area

We don't believe that rehabilitation should focus solely on where you feel pain.

Your whole body works together.

We'll consider:

  • Your symptoms

  • Your movement patterns

  • Strength and mobility

  • Previous injuries

  • Your work and lifestyle

  • Your exercise and activity levels

  • Your training demands

  • Your recovery

  • Your confidence with movement

  • Your personal goals

This allows us to understand what may be contributing to your problem and create a programme that fits into your life.

What Do We Do?

A Personalised Clinical Pilates Programme

Your first appointment begins with an assessment.

We'll discuss:

  • What you're experiencing

  • When your symptoms started

  • Your previous injuries

  • Your medical history where relevant

  • Your normal activity levels

  • Your work and lifestyle

  • Exercise and sporting activities

  • What you've tried already

  • What you want to achieve

We'll then assess areas such as:

  • Movement

  • Strength

  • Mobility

  • Balance

  • Stability

  • Movement control

Your findings help us design a programme specifically for you.

Clinical Pilates Exercises

Build Strength, Control & Confidence

Your programme may include exercises focusing on:

Core Strength

Developing the strength and control needed to support everyday movement and activity.

Mobility

Improving movement where appropriate and helping you feel more comfortable moving your body.

Stability

Developing control around the spine, pelvis, hips, shoulders and other areas relevant to your condition.

Balance

Improving balance and coordination to support everyday activities and sport.

Strength

Progressively challenging your muscles and physical capacity.

Functional Movement

Translating your exercises into movements that matter in everyday life, work, exercise and sport.

Hands On Physiotherapy

Clinical Pilates & Physiotherapy Working Together

Clinical Pilates is an active form of rehabilitation, but hands-on physiotherapy can sometimes complement your exercise programme.

Where appropriate, treatment may include:

  • Soft tissue techniques

  • Joint mobilisation

  • Movement-based manual therapy

  • Muscle release techniques

  • Mobility techniques

  • Scar treatment where appropriate

Hands-on treatment is always explained beforehand and carried out with your consent.

The aim is to combine hands-on care with active rehabilitation rather than relying on passive treatment alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have done Pilates before?

No. Clinical Pilates is suitable for beginners as well as people who already have experience with Pilates or exercise.

Is Clinical Pilates suitable if I'm in pain?

It can be, depending on the cause and severity of your symptoms. Your physiotherapist will assess you first and adapt the exercises appropriately.

Is Clinical Pilates the same as physiotherapy?

No. Clinical Pilates is a form of active exercise rehabilitation. It can form part of physiotherapy treatment alongside assessment, education, hands-on treatment and other rehabilitation techniques.

Will I receive hands-on treatment?

Hands-on physiotherapy may be included where appropriate, depending on your assessment and goals. It isn't necessary for every condition or every appointment.

How often should I do the exercises?

Your physiotherapist will advise you based on your condition, goals and overall activity levels. Consistency is generally more important than doing large amounts of exercise occasionally.

Can Clinical Pilates help with back pain?

It can form part of a rehabilitation programme for some people with back pain. Your programme will be individualised rather than based on a generic set of exercises.

Can Clinical Pilates help me return to sport?

Yes. Exercises can be progressed towards the strength, balance, stability and movement demands of your chosen sport.

Move Better. Feel Stronger. Build Confidence.

Your Rehabilitation, Your Goals

Clinical Pilates is about more than performing a series of exercises.

It's about understanding your body, developing strength and control, and gradually building confidence in what you can do.

At Core Physiotherapy, we combine physiotherapy assessment, Clinical Pilates, hands-on treatment and holistic rehabilitation to create a programme that's genuinely personalised to you.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing persistent symptoms, rebuilding strength after surgery or working towards returning to sport, we'll help you move forward at your own pace.
